THE USED OF SOME , ANY , MANY , MUCH AND ARTICLE ( A, AN, THE, NO ARTICLE)

MATERI 1 SOME, ANY, MUCH, MANY

SOME

Some is a determiner and a pronoun. Some as a determiner We use some before nouns to refer to indefinite quantities. Although the quantity is not important or not defined, using some implies a limited quantity.

Example: Can i have some milk?

Explanation: “Some” in this sentence follows with uncountable noun which is milk.

ANY

It is used with negative sentences. When asking questions and when a sentence is grammatically positive, but the meaning of the sentence is negative.

Any is a determiner and a pronoun. Any as a determiner use any before nouns to refer to indefinite or unknown quantities or an unlimited entity

Example: Do you have any problem with me?

Explanation: “Any” in this sentence follows with uncountable or countable noun which is problem.

MUCH

It is used with uncountable nouns.

Example: I have much mango tree in indramayu.

Explanation: “Much” in this sentence follows with uncountable or countable noun which is mango

as a pronoun:

Example :

He didn’t say much.

How much did you pay? (followed by ‘of’): 

Much of the work has already been completed.

as an adverb (with a verb or past participle):

Example :

A much loved member of the family. (before a comparative or superlative adjective or adverb):

The exam was much easier than I had expected.

MANY

It is used with countable nouns.

Example: The are many car in the showroom.

Explanation: “Many” in this sentence follows with countable nouns which is car.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Much and many are not often used, in modern spoken English, in affirmative statements; but they are very commonly used in interrogative and negative contexts.

Materi 2 Article ( A, An, The, No article)

An article is a word that is used before a noun to show whether the noun refers to something specific or not. The, a,  an and  No articles.

THE

Example:

They all sit in the hall. 

 

Explanation:

Use "the" with a singular noun to something of which there is only one is " hall ".

A 

Example:

A  boy in the class is very handsome.

Explanation:

the noun the article modifies begins with 'boy' which is also a consonant. If the noun that comes after the article begins with a consonant sound, the appropriate indefinite article  to  use is " a ".

AN

Example:

I bring an umbrella every rainy day.

Explanation:

this noun begins with 'umbrella '. If the noun that comes after the article begins with a vowel sound, the appropriate indefinite article to use is "an ".

No article

You talk about something in general without no article (a, an, the)
